Twitter quietly rolling out new stream on web interface?
Very interesting on the web interface seeing new follows and RTs etc. (see the screen shot) Anyone else seeing this on their stream when you look at your mentions?

Social Media Score… What does it meeaaan?
Internet Marketers are competitive by nature. Clearly if you are wanting to rank 1st on the search engine you have to compete. SEO’s wish to rule the Social Media world as well. Why? Traffic equals money. Going viral can mean a lot of traffic and a lot of money. To those that want to profit from the online world they must find ways to slice and dice data to see what activities carry a monetary value. So what do these SEO minded people do? They create measurement and scoring to see how well they do in the Social Media arena. Attach a game to it, make it fun, and gamble a bit.
Just got a suggestion from my good friend Dana about a new person I need to follow on Twitter, (by the way thanks) and after I followed I saw the screenshot below … I decided to go ahead and post it because a lot of my friends are asking me about it etc. If you have not seen it, or have it yet on your account – check it out:
I love when I see professional athletes using Twitter, but not just “using” it, I am talking really “getting” it – and understanding the power. It’s no secret I am a HUGE Arizona Cardinals fan, even more – I am a HUGE Larry Fitzgerald fan! FAITH FOCUS FINISH! I have been following him on Twitter for a while, and watching how he interacts with fans, and I must say, he does a great job.
Check out this recent contest he had on his Twitter stream:
Step 1. Bait your followers:
Step 2. Give people a reason to follow you. Larry does a great job with opportunities for for fans to “win” something. With Larry baiting fans, he makes them pay attention to his Twitter stream. (It doesn’t always have to be about controversy and getting fired over Twitter with athletes!)
As I was searching online for some information to one of my favorite Mexican food joints here in Arizona I ran across several problems with their website and wanted to share them here. I also came across several areas where I thought they could capitalize on social marketing, increase traffic to their website and interact better (online) with the people who love them.
The Argument:
You walk into one of their locations and they are already packed. True, but tell me of a business (you know of) that does not want to reach MORE customers, or expand to MORE locations? If they are speaking the truth, every business wants to grow and expand – and of course, make more money. So, I feel with a few improvements to their website and nickles worth of free social marketing advice here, I think they could be making vast improvements to their overall bottom line.
I know, this seems pretty basic – and is to most people who are following me on Twitter, but believe it or not I got the email asking me to explain how to “retweet” something. After a few emails back and forth it gave me a great idea to create another video and share some thoughts and techniques.
Here is a question I received yesterday that I felt would make a good social marketing post (because I have been asked numerous times before).
I get confused on the social media sites like, Facebook, Twitter, even Skidoo etc. Should I be setting up a profile under my name to follow me specifically or setting up something that tells people to follow my website?
Here are my thoughts: My answer depends on the specific network, as well as what you are trying to accomplish, but let me first touch on the specific networks you mentioned in this question.
In case you didn’t see it, Problogger‘s blog had a post about how to a new blog indexed in search engines like Google. I recommend this even for established blogs. Simply create a “to do” list and work on adding your blog to each site.
Or, hire someone to do this for you (see the end for my recommendation).
My good friend, and fellow blogger on Dream Systems Media, Janet Meiners (aka Newspapergrl) had an interesting experience getting suspended on Twitter a few months back, and I want to take the time to talk about her experience and share how people can now, never have to worry about this happening to them.
Here is Janet’s story:
I twitter every day and have been building a network there for over a year. First it was a way to talk to friends and follow what was happening in my industry. Then it became a valuable networking tool for my business. One day a few months ago, I logged on and my password didn’t work. I tried again, same issue. I was sure it was the right password.
I went to my twitter account page, www.newspapergrl.com and it said, “this account has been suspended for suspicious activity…nothing to see here, mozy along” or something simliar. My first response was panic. Later it was anger.
I had an amazing meeting this afternoon with 3 of the coolest guys you would ever be so lucky to meet. These guys are clients of mine, who wanted to discuss Twitter as well as the best ways to leverage its power. Everyone of these guys (up to this point) were WAY TOO COOL to use (or be found dead on) Twitter. By the end of the 2 hour meeting (which really did FLY by) they were ALL ready to get their own personal Twitter accounts setup (besides the corporate one I had already helped them set up).
Why the change of heart for these hardest of hard core “cool dudes”?
It really is simple - I showed and helped them understand the power of Twitter and what it would/could do for their business (as well as what it could do for them individually).
