A couple of us from Dream Systems Media will be speaking at SMX West, and we are pretty excited about it. Myself and David Mink are going to be speaking on a combined total of 4 panels. They are some awesome subjects with some even cooler speakers! Here is a run down of our speaking schedule. We are very excited to be speaking with some of these other awesome speakers! We are also very thankful that our 3rd team member Andy Melchior will be holding down the DSM fort for us while we are gone!

Local & Mobile Search Track
Mobile Search Apps & Opportunities – Away from your computer, but need to search for something? There’s a smart phone app for that! More than 100,000 for the iPhone, 20,000 and growing for Google’s Android. This session looks at popular search apps on different devices, how they gather data and opportunities they offer to search marketers.

I just had to take a snapshot of this picture and share it because I thought it was cool. Our very own David Mink’s likeness is being used on the banners pitching SMX Advanced next month in Seattle. I have seen the banners for a while now, but it only hit me today that the guy in the snapshot was David! I think that’s pretty cool! This picture was taken at SMX West 2009 (which Dave and I spoke at), and I am pretty sure that another one of DSM’s crew took the picture. Greg Lindblom in fact (lostbro1 on Twitter) was the guy responsible for the picture and apparently SMX took the image off my Flickr feed. So the question is, where is the credit/link love for Greg? I guess this will have to do! Nice picture Greg! Now only if we were actually speaking at SMX advanced … haha

For those of you who are still thinking about maybe going to SMX West 2009, it’s not to late. You can still save $200 if you are planning on attending SMX West 2009 Feb. 10 – 12. The deadline for saving is midnight tonight, 1/9 (just a couple hours away so hurry).
In addition to encouraging your attendance because I’ll be speaking at the event, I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate my partner, and friend, David Mink on getting asked to speak at SMX West as well. Among the many other things that David does for Dream Systems, he is also our Chief Legal Officer here at Dream Systems Media and a dang good Internet marketer. He has been working in the field of internet marketing since starting his own ecommerce business back in 2000, and he is a licensed attorney in the State of Utah and one of the smartest guys I know.

Apparently an Italian prosecutor has ordered 4 Google Executives to appear in a court in Milan, Italy to face defamation charges. The charges stem from a cell phone video, posted to Google, of 4 Italian high-school males taunting another young Italian male with down syndrome. The charges were brought by an Italian down syndrome advocacy group called Vividown and the kid’s father.
Defamation is defined as the act of injuring another’s reputation by any slanderous communication, written or oral.
The legal question here is: Can a party (like Google) be punished for the way its site is used by third parties?
In the United States the answer is probably not. Under 47 U.S.C. sec. 230(c)(1) (CDA Sec. 230): “No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider.” This provision is generally interpreted by U.S. Courts to provide protection against defamation claims made against ISPs.

My name is David Mink and I am a 30-year-old guy from the USA. I can’t really name a particular state because my dad was a Medevac helicopter pilot in the Army – this means we moved all over the place all the time.
My Internet business background dates back to the year 2000 when I took a job as an “e commerce hotline” advisor for a company my Uncle worked at. About 60 days later I was convinced that I could start an Internet business. So, I did. My entrepreneurial ventures have paid my way through college, law school, a marriage, and a couple of rug rats.
At DSM I wear the hat of “Chief Legal Officer” and thoroughly enjoy posting on Internet Legal topics like: How did Craigslist get pressured into limiting it’s Exotic Services listing?
