well put man. When you think about it that way .... no other candy company has come close to generating the kind of "buzz" and links Skittles has got from this. It was a great job!

i am with you ross. i think it was brilliant. skittles is a brand that has little to loose and much to gain - what competitor do they have to fear?

i am sure they are hurting like the rest of the world, so how do you "inspire" more people to buy more skittles? pull a modern pr stunt and get every turbo nerd that is connected to the web to freak out and talk about it!

q: when is the last time you linked anything that had to do with skittles? Neh... when is the last time you even socially talked about skittles?

slam dunk imo.

Digital social media is incredibly powerful. But it is not the future of marketing, it is only one component (albeit an important one) in a larger discipline, right?I'm not here to blow a whistle or to call anyone out. But......

<a href="#comment-895" rel="nofollow">@Ross</a>
Thanks for the comment, and I agree with you that YES, they are a major brand and Google sees that, but if someone else broke the Google rules of dup. content would they be overlooked so easily?

However - Michael Gray answered this duplicated content question for me already - in a comment I made on the post where he talked about Skittles:

"it’s an ajax iframe so doubt google can “see” into it, but having an empty homepage not a good long term strategy" found here - http://www.wolf-howl.com/socialmedia/skittles-twitter/

Thanks again for your comments!

Yeah, it was a crazy night last night...word spread quick, which is very cool to see happen.

As far as PR...no worries. It's a major brand (Google knows that), people are still linking to them, of course, and they'll probably increase inbound links three-fold by the time it's all said and done. EVERYONE is linking to Skittles.com today.

I don't care what anyone says, even with the spammers, this was a brilliant buzz generating move. Even if they took it down right now, they are the most talked about subject on Twitter, which creates viral buzz rapidly. I'm still amazed :)
